FAQ Reiki

Reiki a beneficial healing modality that is very popular and utilized for health and wellness. It is based on energetic principles and is practiced in many hospitals, medical settings, and in private practice all around the world.

Although Reiki energy is spiritual in nature, Reiki is not a religion nor affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not based on any belief or suggestion in any form. Reiki is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy. An attuned (initiated) Reiki practitioner doesn’t have to change his/her religious or spiritual beliefs. The practitioner is free to continue believing anything he/she choose. The same applies to the one who is receiving a Reiki treatment.

A Professional Reiki Healer must complete a series of courses, beginning with Reiki Level 1, often continuing through Reiki Level 2, then onto the Reiki Master Course and practicum. Some Reiki Healers choose to continue their education to become Reiki Master Teachers, where they can empower others with healing through Reiki.

A Reiki session takes generally one hour. In some cases 90 minute sessions may be available.

The first session is always combined with the intake. The intake usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. The practitioner will then go over the session, discuss your goals for the session and complete the necessary paperwork.

You will be fully reclined comfortably on a massage table during the Reiki session. It is also possible to receive the treatment while semi-reclined on a massage chair or recliner. If you have particular pain or mobility issues please let me know so I can make you as comfortable as possible during the session.

No. Reiki is not a massage therapy session, you will be fully clothed. It is advisable to wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing for a Reiki session.

Yes. Reiki is done with a light gentle pressure static touch. There are standard hand placements beginning at the head or the feet, avoiding all sensitive body parts.

One session is a great start! You will experience it yourself how Reiki makes you feel, if it is relaxing, if you feel more clarity after the session. For many people, a series of sessions is advised to progressively work on their health and wellness goals.

Reiki is an excellent complementary to your health and wellness in general. Reiki helps improving the progress of your healing proces if you have a chronic situation. In some cases Reiki can help triggering the healing proces as well. However, for an acute condition you are strictly advised to seek out a licensed medical professional.

Peace and a sense of relaxation is reported by most clients. Reiki is relaxing to the extent that falling asleep during the session is not unthinkable. Nothing to worry about though, sleeping or awake, you will still receive all of the benefits of the session.

During a Reiki session the practitioner may have soft ambient music playing in the background to aid in the relaxation, except for that there will be no talking. However, you can speak up at any time during the session to communicate something to your practitioner, such as if you are cold or too warm, if you would like the music to be adjusted, if you are experiencing a sensation you would like to discuss, if something feels uncomfortable for you or if you have a question.

The whole point is to make your session the best experience possible. After the session, your practitioner will ask you, if there is anything you would like to share and you may do so at your option. Your practitioner will note this feedback and use it for planning your next session.

You might experience slight tingeling, heat or energy, or nothing at all at the practitioner’s hand placements. Each body reacts in a particular way to Reiki. The sensations or lack of them are not a barometer of the Reiki. You may feel a peace and calm in your mind or physically in general. Although it varies from client to another, deep relaxation is almost always felt.

After the session and during the rest of the day your body’s energy system will be circulating at a more optimum rate than you’re used to. That means you need to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. It is also good to consider taking a quiet moment during the day or in the evening after the session to contemplate. That will help your body to continue processing the Reiki session and give you some insights and further mental clarity.

Reiki is a wonderful complement in a health or wellness plan. It supports your work with your primary care providers. Please see the IARP web site at https://iarp.org for articles on Reiki and how it may be of benefit with medical issues, pregnancy, life stages, and more.

Not at all, your (energetic) body takes exactly how much Reiki it wants and needs during the Reiki session and utilises it in the healing proces.

Reiki is just starting to be recognised by insurance companies. Many insurance companies in the Netherlands do have packages where Reiki treatments are fully or partially covered. Check with your insurance company for details.
